Caroline, Faith Connections Volunteer
Caroline shares her story of volunteering with Faith Connections.
I found out about Faith Connections, Fontbonne Ministries' young adult ministry, while attending a Theology on Tap event back in 2009. At the time, I was a member of the former Toronto Catholic Singles Association. I was the Young Adult Coordinator and I co-planned and co-hosted a couple of Singles Mixers with Vanessa Nicholas-Schmidt, the Faith Connections Program Director. In September 2010, I officially became a Faith Connections volunteer.
I've taken on roles such as photographer and registration at events such as Mass and Lunch with the CSJs, Theology on Tap and Hike and Prayer at Nuit Blanche. I also co-planned and co-hosted a Catholic Speed-Dating event with Faith Connections and the Newman Centre Young Adult Ministry.
Volunteering with Faith Connections connects me to other people in my age group that share my faith. By being a volunteer, I take on roles that take me out of my comfort zone and make me engage with people as I answer their questions, as I introduce them to each other and as I try to make them feel welcome. It's been a great way to develop leadership skills and meet new people!
