City Hall's Peace Garden: Gathering to Remember 1945 Bombing

To commemorate the 65th anniversary of the 1945 bombing of Hiroshima, the City of Toronto proclaimed Aug. 6, 2010 to be 'Hiroshima Day' and the Hiroshima Day Coalition held an event at City Hall's Peace Garden.

On the program, the Coalition had noted: "Thousands of Canadians will be joining millions around the world to remember the innocent lives that were lost in 1945 and those that continue to suffer today. We shall never forget as we remind the world that nuclear weapons must be abolished once and for all."

A Different House

If you think that all the houses of the Sisters of St. Joseph are more or less the same, you've never visited a tall house in Riverdale where three Sisters live.

Catholic Social Teaching: Respecting Human Dignity

“He has risen indeed! This is the reason for our hope!” read the program cover for a “Day on Catholic Social Teaching.” On March 29, Fr. Jack Costello, S.J. (photo at right) spoke at Morrow Park at the invitation of the Office for Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation.  After greeting the audience of both Sisters and Associates, Sister Anne Lemire introduced Fr. Costello, who urged us to consider Catholic social thinking rather than Catholic social teaching, since teaching is performed by the few while thinking is the domain of us all.

Sister Bonetti’s Mission

On Sunday, Oct. 29, Sister Eugenia Bonetti, a Consolata Missionary Sister, spoke to a number of Sisters of St. Joseph and their guests at Morrow Park. Her talk was filled with information, energy and passion.

JPIC Report on World Water Day

The United Nations has designated 22 March as World Water Day to be observed worldwide. On the 2006 World Water Day, the World Water Forum, held in Mexico City, came to an end. The Forum brings together major international financial institutions, a number of multinational corporations and different governments. It receives funding from the Canadian government. Forum sponsors believe that privatizing water systems is still the best solution to the world's water dilemma.
