Catholic Social Teaching: Respecting Human Dignity

“He has risen indeed! This is the reason for our hope!” read the program cover for a “Day on Catholic Social Teaching.” On March 29, Fr. Jack Costello, S.J. (photo at right) spoke at Morrow Park at the invitation of the Office for Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation.  After greeting the audience of both Sisters and Associates, Sister Anne Lemire introduced Fr. Costello, who urged us to consider Catholic social thinking rather than Catholic social teaching, since teaching is performed by the few while thinking is the domain of us all.

Sister Bonetti’s Mission

On Sunday, Oct. 29, Sister Eugenia Bonetti, a Consolata Missionary Sister, spoke to a number of Sisters of St. Joseph and their guests at Morrow Park. Her talk was filled with information, energy and passion.

JPIC Report on World Water Day

The United Nations has designated 22 March as World Water Day to be observed worldwide. On the 2006 World Water Day, the World Water Forum, held in Mexico City, came to an end. The Forum brings together major international financial institutions, a number of multinational corporations and different governments. It receives funding from the Canadian government. Forum sponsors believe that privatizing water systems is still the best solution to the world's water dilemma.

A Month for Marches: Sr. Jean Leahy reports on two walks

On March 19, 2005, the second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, several Sisters joined with thousands of others not only in Nathan Phillips Square but all around the world in protest of this war. After listening to impassioned speeches, we marched up University Avenue, past the U.S. Consulate, up to College, across to Yonge Street, down Yonge to Queen and then returned to Nathan Phillips Square where more protests to the war and calls for PEACE were heard. May this call grow stronger and stronger!
