Fontbonne Ministries Honours its Volunteers

Sixty-seven people attended the Volunteer Appreciation Brunch on Sunday, May 1st, 2011 at Fontbonne Place and celebrated with the Sisters involved in the ministries, pictured above. For the past decade, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto have been responding to the social needs of their community through Fontbonne Ministries.

And on Oct. 1, the Sisters celebrated Fontbonne Ministries' 10th anniversary with an open house at Fontbonne Place, a residence that provides affordable, rent-geared-to-income housing for older, single women.

Fontbonne Ministries Celebrates its Volunteers

Fontbonne Ministries celebrated volunteers with a May 19, 2010 gathering at Mustard Seed that combined warm hospitality, a chance to chat, some tempting sweets and a clown prone to ‘random acts of kindness' pictured at right with Administrator Leanne Kloppenborg.

Sister Margaret Myatt welcomed volunteers and quoted a relevant passage from the Sisters' constitution: "Our Congregation received the name of St. Joseph so that following his example we will be present to others with loving attention and cordial charity."

Five years of Fontbonne Ministries

Five years ago, Joan Breech (left) began her work with the Sisters of St. Joseph as administrator of Fontbonne Ministries. To celebrate, General Superior Sr. Margaret Myatt (left) surprised her on Aug. 8, 2005, with a cake, roses and a gathering of staff involved in Fontbonne over the years.

Joan reminisced about the lunch with Sr. Margaret, an occasion that resulted in her taking on this task. Thanked for all she has accomplished, Joan in turn thanked everyone for their efforts
