Sister Virginia's Latest Art Exhibit

"I sold 12 pieces — many of the smaller pieces I created went — and many cards," said a pleased Sister Virginia Varley of her latest art exhibit which took place between April 15 - 18, 2010, at 44 Jakes Avenue.

The Woman

March 8, 2010 marks International Women's Day, a fitting one for Sister Jane Wilcox's poem.

A wandering woman, light filtering through her darkness
steps timidly toward the dawning horizon.
Landscape rugged, her heart amassed with trouble -
walks and runs the sacred dimensions of earth.

The violent creative destruction
the woman has known
And yet her dreams of energy unfolds…
Radiant beauty struggling to emerge.
She embraces the sufferings of the Universe
In her own person.

Greening with Hildegard of Bingen

Sister Betty Lou Knox has published a book called Greening with Hildegard of Bingen: Mystic for the 21st Century. The 48-page book features Sister Betty Lou’s nature photographs and Hildegard of Bingen’s words side by side.

"In gratitude for the beauty of the earth and the joy of Hildegard’s friendship, my hope is to introduce her through reflection on her words and contemplation of the images in this book," writes Sister Betty Lou in her preface.

Erasmus of Toronto

The culmination of years of work by Mechtilde O'Mara CSJ and Edward A Phillips Jr. is in print: Collected Works of Erasmus, Volume 43: Paraphrases on the Epistles to the Corinthians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Thessalonians. Robert D. Sider is editor of the New Testament works of Erasmus.

Parish mission with a difference

A parish mission is generally considered to be a time of renewal for the people of the parish. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish is preparing for a mission from March 29 till April 1. But this mission will be a bit different. Instead of one speaker, Fr. Jim Hannah, the pastor, has invited Fr. Steve Vasek, OMI and Sr. Jean Fitzpatrick, SSC from Buffalo NY to assist 50 volunteers from the parish to prepare for the mission. Committees were formed and have been busy since last October.
