Job Posting: Part Time Physiotherapist Assistant

Reporting to our Physiotherapist (PT), the Physiotherapist Assistant (PTA) will assist in the performance of various components of the treatment plans for the residents.

This part time position is approximately 21 hours per week and located in East York Toronto.
 
The PTA will be required to work in collaboration with our clinical staff while performing various treatments prescribed and directed by our PT. 
 
The PTA will have the ability to assess, prepare and assist patients with treatment under the direction of the PT in a variety of settings including department, outdoors, and on the unit. The PTA will also maintain work materials and supplies and be responsible for order and cleanliness in the work area. 
 
Specific interventions may include, but not be limited to, the delivery of therapeutic exercise classes, gait and balance training, use of modalities, active and passive range of motion, and providing assistance to residence to improve strength and safe transfers.
 
As the successful candidate, you are accountable for the quality and effectiveness of these services and will work with an inter-professional team to recommend, implement and sustain best practices in rehabilitation, convalescent, and aging-in-place.
 
The PTA works in accordance with the provincial College of Physiotherapists and with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto Staff Mission and Values.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary Physiotherapist Assistant diploma.
  • Membership with the CPA would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with elderly clients in a variety of settings such as home care, rehabilitation, and long term care.
  • Strong professional practice, assessment, treatment and decision making skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in applying current and emerging methods in assessment and treatment with the elderly population.
  • Reputation for providing exceedingly compassionate care.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills.   
  • Basic word processing computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work both independently or as a member of a team.
