CSJ Associates Commitment Day 2019

Each year during springtime, Associates gather together with Sisters to renew their Commitment as CSJ Associates.

The weather on Saturday, April 27 was inclement but inside the CSJ residence at 2 O’Connor Drive, 39 Associates and eight Sisters gathered with warm, happy, responsive greetings. The day began with Morning Prayer led by Nilda Laurino and Liza Tornea-Rombough of the St. Michael Community.
Sister Kristine Fernandes, CSJ, our guest speaker, followed with a magical presentation video and solid examples of Fibonacci numbers in God’s designs and natural beauty. She summarized the many ways that God calls us, usually at the most unexpected times and places in the ordinariness of our lives.
Sister Kristine also shared her personal story as to how she responded to God’s nudging for her to become a Sister of St. Joseph of Toronto. What a lovely example of Saying ‘Yes’ to God’s Design which was the theme of the morning’s retreat.
Associates crafted paper snowflakes from one specific set of instructions given by Sister Kristine. The wide variety of designs produced by the Associates demonstrated how each of us perceives our environment uniquely. After a silent break, reflection in groups concentrated on a time each person had experienced the mysteries of God’s design. Sister Kristine drew it all together in her concluding talk.
Faith-sharing by those who have been Associates for over 25 years was heartwarming; namely by Gloria Buckley, Patricia Colegrove, Peggy Lawlor, Ursula Matthews, Rosemary Merkley, Ellen Popkie and John Rutledge.
Shannon-Lee Maguire moderated the exercise followed by acknowledgements and expressions of thanks.
Our afternoon Liturgy presider was Father Conlin Mulvihill, SJ.
During this solemn ceremony, Sister Georgette Gregory, CSJ Congregational Leader, led Eugenia Lui from the Galilee Community through her first Associate commitment.
Sister Georgette followed with the renewal of commitment for the Associates who were present. She then did the same for the Associates in Prayer, represented by the Associate co-directors, Carol Lombard and Mary Huan.
Many Sisters attended the liturgy celebration and the commitment ceremony. They all expressed their desire to continue supporting the Associates. The sun came out and the crowd celebrated with Eugenia and her family at a lovely reception. Congratulations were shared by all those who renewed their commitment.
The CSJ Associates wish to thank the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto for their continued love, guidance and support.
