Job Posting: Physiotherapist

The Physiotherapist will work to resolve physical difficulties and to improve movement and mobility, optimizing each Sister’s quality of care and quality of life, supporting their ability to enjoy health, independence, choice and dignity throughout all stages of life.

The selected candidate will be accountable for the quality and effectiveness of physiotherapy services and work with the inter-professional team to recommend, implement and sustain best practices in rehabilitation, convalescent, palliative care and aging-in-place.
 
This staff member will work in accordance with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto Staff Mission and Values.
 
Status: Part-Time, Permanent (3 days/week) at 2 O'Connor Drive, reporting to the Administrator and Director of Care.

Qualifications and Personal Characteristics

  • Extensive experience working with elderly clients in a variety of settings such as home care, rehabilitation, long term care and palliative care. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to navigate community and outpatient resources.
  • Strong professional practice, assessment, treatment and decision making skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in applying current and emerging methods and technologies in physiotherapy assessment, treatment and modalities with the elderly population.
  • Reputation for providing exceedingly compassionate and expert care.
  • Commitment and ability to establish client-centered goals and use evidence-based methods to achieve outcomes.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication (electronic, written and verbal) and listening skills. 
  • Reputation for modeling our values of Teamwork, Compassion, Dignity and Environmental Awareness. 
  • Ability to work independently through strong time management, organization, and planning skills.
  • Ability to lead as well as to work collaboratively with an inter-professional team to achieve high quality outcomes. 
  • Proven leadership or active participation in successful improvement initiatives and use of evidence-based quality improvement tools.
  • Reputation for building great working relationships with the clients, peers and team.
  • Ability to contribute new ideas, take initiative and to be open-minded. 
  • Flexibility to provide services outside of normal business hours based on client needs.
  • ADP Authorizer.
  • As a sole-charge Physiotherapist, a strong professional network is an asset.
  • Specialized courses to support areas of clinical expertise is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license is an asset.
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

Major Responsibilities

  • Assess physical and functional status through formal and informal assessment and provide recommendations to maximize safety, function, choice and dignity.
  • Together with clients, determine and pursue individualized client-centered goals based on assessment findings and in conjunction with the client's integrated care plan.
  • Ensure that services provided are best practice, evidence-based and evaluated through the routine use of valid and reliable outcome measurement.
  • Monitor change and adjust interventions as appropriate.
  • Assess for, provide and monitor adaptive equipment as required (i.e. wheelchair, seating orthotics, assistive devices etc.).
  • Identify and participate in clinical education in order to remain current in professional practice areas through readings, attending professional development events and consulting with colleagues and network.
  • Participate in the development of educational initiatives for patients, staff, volunteers and students.
  • Attend case conferences to collaborate with team to optimize client’s care and quality of life.
  • Ensure coordinated delivery of care through ongoing communication with all members of the inter-professional team regarding plans and schedules for interventions.
  • Document all assessment findings, treatment plans and progress reports as required by the profession and in-house policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Administrator/Director of Care to plan, implement and measure the rehab resources required to provide efficient and effective services to our residents and clients.
