Celebrating Our 2017 Jubilarians

Each year, the Sisters celebrate their Jubilarians: Sisters who have reached significant anniversaries in their years of religious life. Some of the Sisters who celebrated this year:

Sister Enid Selke – 75 Years

Sister Enid Selke is an educator by profession. She ministered for 30 years as an elementary school educator and then served eight years as the General Secretary for the Congregation. She founded the Frank J. Selke Memorial Centre in Kapuskasing, Ontario and completed 33 years of ministry in adult faith education in the Diocese of Hearst. Sister Enid now resides in Toronto.

 

Sister Rita Marie McLean – 70 Years

Sister Rita Marie McLean was a teacher for 19 years. As a high school teacher, she especially loved teaching French. She worked 11 years as an undergraduate counselor at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto and then later, was director of St. Joseph’s Retreat Centre, Morrow Park, Toronto. As an accomplished musician, she is always very generous with her gifts and talents.

 

Sister Theresa Martin – 60 Years

Sister Theresa Martin is a proud Newfoundlander who has a gift for music which she loves to share with her community. While in ministry in Montreal, she was very caring. At St. Michael’s Hospital, Sister Theresa made a great contribution to the spirit of the institution. She now resides at the Sisters of St. Joseph residence in Toronto.

 

Sister Mary Ellen Burns – 60 Years

Sister Mary Ellen Burns taught as an elementary school teacher in Ontario and British Columbia before working for 13 years as the Coordinator of the Religious Education Program for the Vancouver Archdiocese. Following this ministry, she directed an English program and taught Japanese students from Nanzan University in Nagoya for eight years while at the same time serving as Director of the Holy Childhood Association for over 22 years. This past year, she was awarded the Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, the papal medal, for her work as a teacher and religious educator in the Archdiocese of Vancouver.

Sister Janet Speth – 40 Years

Sister Janet Speth has worked as a professional physiotherapist in various areas of health care for 30 years. Over the past 10 years, she has been engaged in eco-spirituality and inter-faith ministry. Sister Janet continues in these ministries as a Sister of St. Joseph of Toronto.
