Holy Family Associates: Advent Retreat Day
On Saturday, December 7, 2013, the Holy Family Associates hosted a retreat day at St. Mary of the People parish in Oshawa. About 20 other people from other parishes in Oshawa joined us for a day of reflection and prayer. The subject for the day — Attentive to God’s Presence — was presented by Sr. Mary Rose Marrin CSJ.
Sister Mary Rose asked us to take this day out of our busy Christmas schedule to be with God in prayer and contemplation. She spoke of our need for silence and to shut out the noise of the world to find that inner sanctum of ourselves where God dwells.
In the morning session, Sr. Mary Rose spoke of the many different ways we can be aware of God’s presence in our daily life. After lunch she asked us to spend the afternoon in silence as she led us to understanding how to find God in contemplative prayer. We then spent time in silence and prayer.
At the end of the day, Sister asked us to tell in two or three words the emotions we experienced throughout the day. Some of the words were — peace, joy, wellbeing, gratitude, love. Many thanks to Sister Mary Rose for her thoughtful and inspiring guidance through this day of prayer.
