Commitment: Answering the Call
On the beautiful sunny morning of May 5, 2007, 62 CSJ Associates gathered at Morrow Park for the 25th annual CSJ commitment retreat. The theme was “Commitment: Answering the Call.” The keynote speaker was Sister Divinia Pedro, pictured above, who was a CSJ Associate for eleven years before becoming a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Through quotes, psalms and songs, Sister Divinia explained what commitment means in general, and then to individuals, followers of Christ and CSJ Associates. She also shared her own life experiences, the fears she had every time she said “Yes” to God’s call, and how, each time, she heard Jesus saying to her, “Do not be afraid, I am with you always.”
Sister Divinia also showed us how we can reflect on our lives and our commitment through the mysteries of the rosary. She shared with us an example of the Annunciation, Visitation and the Birth of Christ in her life.
Lastly, Sister Divinia invited us to close our eyes, let go of all our thoughts, and dance with Jesus. As she led us during the dance, many of us were able to see how being a CSJ Associate has transformed our spiritual lives as we embrace the charism of unifying, reconciling and inclusive love that we share with the Sisters of St. Joseph.
We are called
In the afternoon, we watched a film entitled Saints–Gospel Artists, by Fr. Tom Rosica. The film showed us several saints and their lives, and the insights of some participants of the World Youth Day in Rome where they learned about the lives of these saints. The message is loud and clear: we are all called to a life of holiness — everyone can be a saint!
Small group and large group sharing helped us to see the different aspects of the retreat that touched each one of us through what we heard and saw that day. Undeniably, the Holy Spirit was present among us.
Renewing our commitment
After the retreat, we were prepared to renew our commitment as CSJ Associates. At 4:30 p.m. we all went to the chapel for mass, celebrated by Fr. Chris Iredale. During the mass, Sister Margaret Myatt, the CSJ Congregational Leader, led the commitment ceremony. We were delighted to see 10 new candidates, pictured below, who had made their first commitment this year. Later, we had dinner with the Sisters to celebrate this wonderful day.
