A New Haitian Hospital Opens its Doors

Sr. Lorraine Malo, a Sister of St. Joseph of Toronto who works with the organization Our Little Brothers and Sisters tells us of an exciting day…

In Port-au-Prince, on Dec. 4, 2006, the joy and excitement was palpable as everyone rejoiced for Haiti and for the organization of Our Little Brothers and Sisters!  The new pediatric hospital is really a small miracle!  It is a beautiful building, bright and spacious, with modern equipment and up-to-date programmes.

There is a modern dental clinic, a state-of-the-art lab, a 24-hour emergency, two operating theatres and a large ICU.  For Haiti, it is nothing short of miraculous!  There is still much work to be done at the new site but it is open and functioning and we are determined to make it a center of excellent health care where the poor will be welcomed, children will be healed and burdened parents will find solace and consolation.

I have a beautiful, large classroom in the new hospital where I continue to work with the children three days a week. The rest of the days I do administrative work as Home Correspondent for the organization and Volunteer Coordinator for Haiti.  The children continue to be my raison d’être and they never fail to bring me great joy!
