Sister Divinia’s First Profession
On Sept. 7, 2006, after two years of Novitiate, Sister Divinia Pedro celebrated her first profession at Morrow Park chapel with members of her congregation and her family. The rite was incorporated into a Mass celebrated by Fr. Richard Macdonald SJ. Concelebrants included Fathers Chris Iredale CSB, Scott Lewis SJ and John Weelink.
After the homily, Sr. Mary Lou Harris, Novice Director, attested to Sr. Divinia’ readiness to live the vowed life. Then Sr. Margaret Myatt, Congregational Leader, invited Sr. Divinia to make her First Profession. Kneeling and holding a candle, Sr. Divinia started with, “My God, Creator, Redeemer and Holy Spirit, in response to your call, and desirous of living entirely for you, I, Sister Divinia Pedro, offer to you the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience for three years in the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto...”
Sr. Margaret then accepted Sr. Divinia’s vows and placed the congregational symbol blessed by Fr. Macdonald around her neck. Sr. Margaret invited the Sisters present to express their support of her. All the sisters responded, “Sister Divinia, with gratitude to God who has called you, we celebrate and affirm your oneness with us as a Sister of St. Joseph. We promise to support you, and encourage you and join with you in your journey towards a deeper, loving relationship with God…” Sr. Divinia’s sisters and nephew sang “Tanging, Yaman” during the presentation of the gifts, when a picture of Sr. Divinia’s mother and roses were also brought to the altar and placed there.
The service was followed by a reception to which everyone present was invited.
