Awards for Sister Sheila
Awards are raining on Sr. Sheila O'Connor. In recognition of her 25 years of ministry there, Lakeridge Health gave her a beautiful clock with a plaque that reads:
"Sr. Sheila brought hope to so many. Chaplaincy."
The hospital system also presented her with a twenty-five-year service pin and a "huge cake shaped like a hockey rink - they know I love hockey," said Sr. Sheila.
St. Gregory the Great Parish in Oshawa is also grateful for her 25 years in assisting the priest in such areas as distribution of communion and visits to sick and dying patients in the hospital. "When they heard that I couldn't bike because of my smashed ankle, they decided on a canoe for two. They are giving this to me and the Sisters because I have a bit of a history of giving gifts away," said Sr. Sheila.
With more surgery on her ankle in store for her, the trip to Oshawa has become too onerous. But the clock, the cake and the two-person canoe all point to one thing: they will miss Sr. Sheila in Oshawa.
