Sisters Receive a Spirited Tribute

St. Columbkille's Parish in Uptergrove, Ontario, had a triple celebration at the eleven o'clock Aug. 14, 2005 mass. Their reasons for rejoicing: the 150th anniversary of the parish, the 100th anniversary of the building of the church and the contributions of the Sisters of St. Joseph to their parish. The mass featured a hymn composed by a Sister of St. Joseph, Be Thou King O Lord, a reference to the Sisters by the homilist and a tribute offered by Margaret Harris, Coordinator of the Lalemant Group of Associates. At the end of the liturgy, Associate Mary Duffy presented the Sisters with two copies of St. Columbkille, Uptergrove, Ontario: A Treasured History, and Belvia Fish gave the Sisters a Spiritual Bouquet in the name of the congregation.

At the picnic lunch that followed, former students spoke with delight of their time with the Sisters. The CSJ Associates reminisced about their acquaintances within the congregation. Nineteen St. Columbkille men and women have entered religious life over the years. Many parishioners express the hope to the 13 Sisters of St. Joseph present that more individuals would be called to religious life from their midst.
