Nuns on the Run....for Haiti

Do you think we could do it? That was the question that started it all six years ago. The "it" was to walk from Morrow Park at 3377 Bayview Ave. to their home at 74 Wellesley St. West. The "we" refers to Sisters Teresa Garvey and Theresa Rodgers. And that was how it all began.

That first walk was just for fun. The next year the T(h)eresas decided to walk to raise funds for Haiti, and so it has been each October since.

Their route takes them down Bayview to Eglinton where they stop to dine at McDonalds, then through Mount Pleasant cemetery to Yonge Street. The view from there is amazing — looking south they can see as far as the Bay. The walk appears to be all downhill, but there are many, many ups and downs along the way, especially near Lawrence Avenue.

Bernadette Mendonca, CSJ Associate, has been adopted by the two Sisters as team coordinator, helping to raise money for the walk.

The walk is about 17 km and takes the Sisters five and a half hours. This year's walk will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8.
