St. Joseph's College Students Lend a Hand

A number of the university women who live in residence at St. Joseph's College volunteer for the Out of the Cold program sponsored by the University of St. Michael's College chaplaincy department. Every Tuesday for November to March, between 70-80 homeless people receive a meal.

Every Saturday, three or four students go to a bakery to pick up fresh submarine sandwich bread for sandwiches.

On Tuesday morning, they make sandwiches for the men and women who will come in from the streets that day for soup and a sandwich.

Students stay a while for a bit of conversation.

A penny drive in the residence during Spirit Week and the help of St. Michael's extended community raised $1275. for the Out of the Cold program. It took a while to roll all those pennies...

At St. Joseph's College residence dinner for the Feast of St. Joseph, the House Council presented a cheque for the $1275 to the volunteers for Out of the Cold.
