4. Lent

The Lenten Season

Ash Wednesday, this year on February 13, is the first day of Lent, the time of preparation before Easter. For 40 days plus Sundays we are encouraged to pray, to fast, to do good works and to sacrifice something, to give something up.

Lent 2014

Ash Wednesday, this year on March 5, is the first day of Lent, the time of preparation before Easter. For 40 days plus Sundays we are encouraged to pray, to fast, to do good works and to sacrifice something, to give something up. The following reflections, taken from a book called Until the Son is Risen written by Sister Mary Alban Bouchard, are offered to help you during your Lenten journey.

Lent 2015: Fourth Sunday in Lent 2015 (Cycle B): Return Unopened

Jesus said to Nicodemus: "The Son of Man must be lifted up... For God sent his son into the world not to condemn the world but so that through him the world might be saved.... Whoever refuses to believe is condemned already...Men have shown they prefer darkness to light because their deeds are evil." (John 3)

Lent 2015: Fifth Sunday in Lent 2015 (Cycle B) - Sir, We Would Like To See Jesus

... At the festival were some Greeks. These approached Philip... "Sir, we would like to see Jesus. ..." Jesus replied to them: "Now the hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.... A wheat grain... if it dies, it will yield a rich harvest...” (John 12)

Lent 2015: Third Sunday (Cycle B): Home of Prayer, House of Love

"Jesus went up to Jerusalem, and in the Temple he found people selling cattle... 'Take all this out of here and stop turning my Father's house into a market... Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days, I will raise it up.' ... he was speaking of the sanctuary that was his body." (John 2:13-22)
