May 1, Feast of St. Joseph the Worker

For May 1, Sister Anne Schenck prays to St. Joseph, a carpenter, loyal husband and the foster father of the Saviour.

Holy St. Joseph, you quietly accepted the responsibility as provider and foster father of Jesus. When you learned that his life was in danger, you and Mary courageously left your home, city, and business contacts for a new life in a foreign country.

You demonstrated that holiness is possible in the ordinary circumstances of someone who is poor and obliged to work for his living.

I pray that you will accompany us all whenever change takes us beyond our comfort zone. Guide us in striving to live and love each other as dear neighbours who are both near and far.

Help us to follow your example of trust in God in the daily challenges of life. Amen.
