World Fast for Mother Earth
June 20, 2014 (All day) - June 23, 2014 (All day)
An invitation from Grandmother Josephine Mandamin Water Walker:
Take the time to listen. Pray. Be.
“The world has a duty to protect our Mother Earth and her life blood — our life blood — the water.”
Grandmother Josephine, an Ojibwa elder from Manitoulin Island, has walked more than 17,000 km. around all five of the Great Lakes and the length of the St. Lawrence River. She initiated the Mother Earth Water Walks in 2003 and has brought together over 100 Tribes and First Nations to sign the Great Lakes Water Accord which aims to protect water. Beginning June 23 she will walk around our beloved waters — Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching. As she continues her healing work, she invites all nations — wherever you are in the world, alone or with others — to join her each year on a fast for Mother Earth.
As Sisters of St. Joseph, our charism, our spirit, is one of reconciliation which proclaims the oneness of all creation and our profound inter-dependence with all life. Join us for this world fast, in whatever way we can, and be in solidarity with our global brothers and sisters as we espouse the sacredness of water.
