Spirituality can be described as how we live out our relationship with God and other people every day. It is our way of finding meaning in life. Our founder, Father Jean Pierre Médaille, encouraged us to strive for a spirituality of communion.
This means that we are called to be in relationship with God and with others.
One of the ways we express our spirituality of communion is through prayer. This can take many forms: private prayer, communal prayer and sharing our faith journeys, to name a few.
We also express our spirituality through service to others and being present to people. In this way, we help them experience the healing presence of God in a broken world.
Here is how Sister Grace Sauvé spoke about spirituality in an address for a CSJ Retreat in 2001:
There is no simple definition of this spirituality. The God-quest is both a search and a question, which has no definitive, once-and-for-all-answer.
Spirituality refers to
Christ promised us eternal life, the very life of the Spirit who abides in us with Jesus and the Father (Jn.14:23; 15:10)
At the very heart of Christian spirituality is the paschal mystery of dying to the old and rising to new life over and over again until we can say with St. Paul, "It is no longer I who live but Christ Jesus who lives in me" (Gal.2:20)
