I was studying at Regis College in the late 90's when I met the Sisters of St. Joseph and learned about the Associates. In 2005, my husband, Stephen, and I decided we wanted to become Associates so that we could pray with a group. We met with Sister Roberta Freeman and she welcomed us.
We are with the Providence Associates group and we are glad to have Brian Farrell as our group coordinator. Brian has a deep faith, keeps us on track and helps create a good space so that all of us can share.
There are many things happening in our lives, so our Associates group gives us a place connect and reflect. With this monthly group, we don't start from scratch each time. Our sharing draws us deeper into community and into relationship with one another and with God.
When I began looking at Father Médaille's Maxims, I thought they might be ideals that are difficult to attain or something that is no longer relevant today. But each month, we take one or two maxims and reflect on them in our daily lives. This helped me start seeing the Maxims as a way to live without prejudice and to be faithful in everything I do. Our group is always able to find so much in everyday life that connects to the Maxims.
My husband and I think that the events we have within the Providence group have been the most significant for us. We have gotten to know this community month after month, so when we have our Christmas social and our summer social, it is very powerful.
Our experience has been rewarding and my husband and I are very interested in the continuation of the Associates and our participation for the next 20 to 40 years.
