The World Day for Consecrated Life, started in 1997 by Pope John Paul II, will be celebrated this year on Sunday, February 7th. The purpose of this day, wrote Pope John Paul in 1997, was "for consecrated persons to renew their commitment and rekindle the fervor which should inspire their offering of themselves to the Lord."
We Sisters of St. Joseph, in union with all other consecrated men and women, and with the whole Church, are invited on this day to celebrate and give thanks for what God has accomplished in and through us. As well, we look to the future with confidence, relying on God’s continuing fidelity and goodness.
For this February 7th, I offer the following prayer:
Dear God,
As once again we celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life, I stand before you in gratitude. Thank you for the countless blessings you have showered on me during my life.
Thank you for calling me to be a Sister of St. Joseph, a path that has brought me much joy, as well as challenges and sacrifices. (The joys far outweigh the sorrows!)
Thank you for accepting me as I am, with my weaknesses and my strengths. Thank you for your continuing and loving care for me, and for gently challenging me each day to walk hand in hand with you as I try to bring your love to others.
As I look to the future, with all its uncertainty and questions, I know that I do not face it alone. With your love, I am ready to move forward with confidence and eagerness.
Amen.
