On Sunday afternoon, Dec. 12, The Rex Jazz & Blues Bar at 194 Queen St. W. was packed for the “Jazz Fundraiser for Haiti Kids” organized by Manfred Koch, pictured at left playing a trombone.
Manfred had gathered musicians from a number of jazz bands and The Rex was hopping. Over $3400.00 was raised for the Sisters’ work in Haiti.
During a break in the music, Corinne Poole, pictured at right, told those assembled that all the money raised would go to those most in need in Haiti, where Sisters Rosemary Fry, Mary Alban Bouchard and Lorraine Malo continue their ministries amid the cholera epidemic and the election unrest taking place at this time.
Corinne mentioned that Sisters Rosemary and Mary Alban are in ministry at Cap Haitien and Sister Lorraine who was interviewed earlier that day on CBC radio’s The Sunday Edition is in Port au Prince.
Manfred had obtained many prizes and patrons and supporters bought raffle tickets and also made generous donations.
Sister Jean Leahy, pictured at left, helped gather some of the raffle and donation funds from patrons and supporters.
