Fontbonne Ministries celebrated volunteers with a May 19th gathering at Mustard Seed that combined warm hospitality, a chance to chat, some tempting sweets and a clown prone to ‘random acts of kindness' pictured at right with Administrator Leanne Kloppenborg.
Sister Margaret Myatt welcomed volunteers and quoted a relevant passage from the Sisters' constitution: "Our Congregation received the name of St. Joseph so that following his example we will be present to others with loving attention and cordial charity."
She mentioned the historical connection to partners in the Sisters' mission, "In the early period of the Congregation, there existed alongside the Sisters, lay affiliates who had a special bond with the congregation. We, through partnerships with women and men who desire to be of service, fulfill our mission of unity. "
From a podium decorated with a large bouquet from the Loretto Sisters in honour of Fontbonne Ministries' 10th Anniversary, administrator Leanne Kloppenborg thanked one and all for their many contributions. Each ministry director in turn had a word for the 50 assembled Sisters and volunteers.
Brightly coloured gift bags were distributed, group pictures taken, animated conversations exchanged. Volunteer Mike, who teaches computer skills on Tuesdays and Thursdays, summed up the joyful spirit of the affair with a smile, saying: "You know, I get a lot more out of volunteering than I ever put in."
