“When the Jesuits established Regis College in Willowdale in 1961 and again during this past year with the move of Regis College to the Wellesley Street location the Sisters previously owned, they showed us how generous their friendship was.” - Fr. Jim Webb, S.J., Provincial Superior of the Jesuits in English Canada.
The Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto will receive the Magis Award at the Third Annual Jesuit Provincial’s Dinner on April 22, 2009.
”Magis is a key word for Jesuits: it means doing more in our service of God’s people, more compassion, more effectiveness, more relevant wisdom for our difficult times,” adds Fr. Webb.
The Sisters will receive this award for their long-standing, supportive friendship of the Jesuits and their mission, and for their “continued giving in service to the poor, going beyond what is and was expected of them,” says Fr. J. Winston Rye, S.J., Executive Director, Jesuit Development Office.
The dinner also honours golden jubiliarians, men who have served as Jesuits for 50 years.
This event will start with a 5:00 p.m. Mass at St. David Church in Maple, Ontario followed by a reception and dinner at 7:30 p.m. at Le Parc Dining and Banquet Hall in Concord, Ontario.
It is the third year for this $125-a-plate event that raises money on behalf of young men studying to become Jesuits.
