Betty Lou Knox CSJ has published a book called Greening with Hildegard of Bingen: Mystic for the 21st Century. The 48-page book features Sister Betty Lou’s nature photographs and Hildegard of Bingen’s words side by side.
“In gratitude for the beauty of the earth and the joy of Hildegard’s friendship, my hope is to introduce her through reflection on her words and contemplation of the images in this book,” writes Sister Betty Lou in her preface.
During a year’s sabbatical on creation-centered spirituality, Sister Betty Lou was introduced to Hildegard and immediately related to her compassion for the earth and her sense of justice. During the same year, she took a photography course. When she started taking pictures, she began to see the world with contemplative eyes and heart. Since that time, she has offered many workshops on Hildegard.
Hildegard of Bingen was a German mystic, poet, artist, botanist, prophet and musician of the 12th Century. Sister Betty Lou Knox is a Sister of St. Joseph of Toronto.
The book is available through Sister Betty Lou at 416-532-4854 or bettylouknoxcsj@yahoo.ca
An Introduction to Hildegard and Book Signing Event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Paulist Centre, 830 Bathurst St. (across from the Bathurst subway station, north of Bloor St.)
