A recent addition to Alumni Hall is the portrait gallery which includes the Legacy Wall, a collection of portraits of alumni and faculty of the University of St. Michael's College. On the Feast of St. Michael, September 29, 2009, President Anne Anderson CSJ (Hamilton) and Principal Mark McGowan unveiled two additions to the Legacy Wall. Now Sister St. John O'Malley CSJ (Toronto) and Sister Frances Nims IBVM have joined this company, which includes Jacques Maritain, Hon. Frank O'Connor, Etienne Gilson, Morley Callaghan, Cardinal George Flahiff and Marshall McLuhan.
These two Sisters, pioneer educators of St. Michael's College, represent the two congregations of women religious whose colleges, St. Joseph's and Loretto, have been affiliated with St. Michael's since 1911.
Sister Mechtilde O'Mara CJS, Classics Professor Emerita, pictured above with Sister Ellen Leonard CSJ, Theology Professor Emerita, went on to say: "Sister St. John O'Malley was a learned scholar, open to new experiences, wise and compassionate, exerting a profound influence on those whose lives she touched, whether students, colleagues, friends, relatives or fellow members of our religious communities. Sister died in 1986 at the age of 96, in the 77th year of her religious life. Sister St. John O'Malley CSJ is a fitting addition to this gallery of people who have embodied what is best at St. Michael's."
