St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Comox, B.C. has decided to set up the "Sister Pat Macaulay Service Award" for employees who reflect the hospital’s mission and values in their work.
Rev. Gordon Carter, Director of Pastoral Care, Mission, and Medical Ethics at St. Joseph’s, wrote the following in a letter to Sr. Pat, “Over your many years of ministry at St. Joseph's, you gifted our organization with a wonderful example of a life lived out of your congregation's mission.
“We promise to do our best to select employees who demonstrate that the spirit of the Sisters of St. Joseph continues to be foundational for our hospital,” Rev. Carter continued in his letter.
He went on to state that St. Joseph’s hope to present this award at their first annual "Founder's Day" to be celebrated on May 1st, the Feast of St. Joseph The Worker.
Many Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto served at the hospital from 1913 to 1992.
“I stood on the shoulders of our Sisters who had gone before, and who leave a wonderful legacy at St. Joseph's, and that's what is celebrated on Founders Day,” said Sr. Pat.
