Sr. Marie Zelie Receives Legion Appreciation

Sr. Marie Zelie Gignac CSJ and the Sisters of St. Joseph received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Royal Canadian Legion in Missisauga, Branch 582, for contributing to the legion's Wheelchair Project. Sr. Marie has been collecting the pop tabs from pop cans at Morrow Park for the past four years.

This program, initiated in 1989, collects pop tabs for the purpose of buying wheelchairs for those in need. Alcan purchases these pop tabs at the going rate of metal. Approximately two tons of tabs will buy one wheelchair, and as of December 2004, 584 wheelchairs have been donated by the legion.
