"Praise with elation
Praise every morning
God's recreation
Of the new day"
From "Morning Has Broken" by Cat Stevens and Eleanor Farjeon
Actually, it was afternoon that had "broken" when the song rang in our hearts. Thursday afternoon, Oct. 30, the residents of Fontbonne Place, the volunteers and participants from Mustard Seed and the Gardening Angels blessed the newly planted trees and shrubs on our front lawn at 791 Queen St. E.
One resident prayed that the tree would survive uprooting and feel welcome hereas she had.
We all thanked God for the variety and beauty of the pines, yews, red oak, black locust, and snowberry that will give shade and clean air to us. We thanked the donors, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Toronto East Rotary, and friends whose donations made the landscaping possible. We thanked the Gardening Angels who worked to fund-raise and plan. And we celebrated and anticipated the next phase, the planting of flowers.
