Creativity has been a part of Sr. Helen’s life for many years, both in teaching Home Economics and as Director of Food Services.  But a new freedom of spirit emerged when she discovered clay. It became a language she had never before experienced.

After completing a degree in Studio Arts at Emmanuel College in Boston, she taught the seniors at Providence Centre for three years.  Her dream of teaching mixed level groups at her studio became a reality in 1993.

Class Content

In the classes taught at Studio on the Hill, various hand-building techniques and decorative finishes are explored.  Individual interests are encouraged and welcomed. Wheel work is offered for adults and teens. “Pottery makes beautiful gifts and conversation pieces for your home,” says Sr. Helen.

Teaching pottery at the studio embraces the excitement of learning a new skill and rediscovering one’s creativity.  Relaxation and a feeling of peacefulness are unexpected benefits.

Sr. Helen teaches from the perspective that “there are no mistakes, only new creations.” New students breathe a sigh of relief.  Of her outreach programs, Sr. Helen says, “They

allow me to touch the lives of those at various drop-in centers.”

Scheduled Classes

Flexible Schedules

Students may take classes at any time; they are not locked into a series of classes.
Personal scheduling allows students with complicated commitments, or financial demands to adapt to studio flexibility. For groups larger than eight, call 416-752-2665 to arrange a private session.
Commissioned originals by Sr. Helen are available for corporate events.  

Class Cost

Children - $24 per class
Adults - $30 per class
Seniors - $24 per class
Costs include instruction, a variety of clays, basic supplies, firing, glazes and GST. (Some exceptions may apply)
