What We Do

Who we are is intimately bound up with what we do. As we commit our lives to God, to our community and to helping the neighbour, we fulfill our mission of living in communion with all. For more on our mission, see our Mission page.

Shifting Needs

We stay in touch with current needs. When we first arrived in Canada in 1851, the needs were for schools, orphanages and caring for the poor. So our Sisters responded. For more on this, see our History page.

Today needs have shifted. People cry out for places and programs that address the poverty, isolation, lack of community and spiritual void in our cities. So that is where we put our energy. For more on this, see the Ministries Started by the CSJ page.

Women of prayer and action

We are women of both prayer and action. As General Superior Sister Margaret Myatt states in the book Wisdom Raises Her Voice, "We have many, many entrepreneurs in our Community. We see what the needs are where we are and we try to meet those needs using the skills and the talents God has given us."
