In seeking out a new consciousness of the demands of the Gospel in the world of today, our office for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation has been established to witness that concern for social and ecological issues is an integral part of our CSJ life and mission, and to give public voice to the social consciousness of the Congregation.

Our mission statement:

Our Justice and Ecology Ministry seeks out to nurture community by addressing the social issues of the time, in order to enable both individual and Congregational response.

“The joys, the hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the men (and women) of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these too are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ.”

Sr. Janet Fraser The challenging statement from the Vatican 2 Document, “The Church in the World”, echoing themes from the Gospel, has struck a deep chord in our hearts since it was proclaimed in the early 60’s.

For many years, Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto have worked zealously for Justice and Peace, and in the last few years have spent much energy in educating for reverence and care of our Universe.


	In seeking to carry out the mission of the Congregation, a mission of unity and reconciliation, we work for change of the economic and social structures that oppress all peoples and all creation. This is accomplished by: Education, Action, Networking with other justice and ecology groups, and By keeping before the Congregation the vision of a just world based on the Church’s social teachings, the Gospel of Jesus and our own Congregational documents.
	By promoting Awareness, Encouraging reflection, Initiating calls to action, and By suggesting appropriate responses, this office gives public voice to the social consciousness of the Congregation.

As we engage in these endeavours, we recognize that we are persons in need of being evangelized even as we strive to evangelize.
