Nature Meditation — March

One day, watching gliders in the sky, I was struck by how lovely a symbol for prayer they were. They made no noise. They relied not on their own power but were carried upward on the currents of the air, moving slowly, circling without haste and with utter grace, their wings catching the light of the sun. They were the image of those graced and carried in prayer by God.

We are not saved by our own excellence or even our penance, nor by the perfect keeping of the law, much less by many words. We are saved by God's gift.
