The dawn from on high

Woodolph is four years old and suffers from sclera derma – a terrible disease that will soon claim his life.

He lives each day as fully as he can, is able to smile and laugh and learn his colours despite the pain that is now as familiar to him as breathing.

He cannot know what is happening to him . . . he does know, however, in his own childlike way, that the Saviour is coming, that the dawn from on high will soon break upon him, freeing him from the darkness of suffering and the shadow of death, guiding his little feet into the way of peace. 

For me, this is Advent.
