Advent is a time of waiting

Advent is a time of waiting.

Waiting is hard. Will what is awaited really come?  Is it worth waiting for?

My favourite image of advent-waiting is one I heard many years ago.  It did not originate with me, but has become part of my life.

Picture yourself at the Santa Claus parade. Look around.  Don't look for Santa, but look around you at the children.  They are waiting!  They are waiting with joy, with hope, with energy – and with the certainty that Santa will appear any minute now.

And so we wait for Jesus, in joy, in hope, and in the certainty that he will be here, any minute now.
