Looking back

As I think back on my life, I can see God's hand guiding me even when I resisted that guidance.

Struggling with discernment

In high school I had a good friend with whom I travelled to school. When she was in Grade 12 she began to think seriously about a religious vocation. That started me thinking about how one knew whether or not she has a vocation. I had what I thought were some very good arguments against becoming a Sister, but the more I tried not to think about it, the more it would come back and disturb my peace of mind.

Hearing the call

After finishing high school I worked for two years as a stenographer/secretary. I enjoyed my job and had an active social life. I expected the idea of a religious vocation to disappear. Well, it didn't. At the end of my second year of work I decided to make inquiries about entering.

And now

My life as a Sister of St. Joseph has been a rich and happy one. My relationship with God has grown over the years because of all the spiritual benefits received from community. I taught high school for many years. In recent years my ministry has been involved with social outreach projects such as the Furniture Bank and St. Paul's Food Bank. I am presently a member of our CSJ Leadership Team link to http://www.csj-to.ca/Who_we_are/Meet_us/meet-our-leadership-team.php and am in the midst of serving my second term in this ministry. So, despite my initial resistance, I have known for many years and I still know now that I made the right decision. There is a line at the end of one of Robert Frost's poems about taking the road less travelled. He ends with the words: "And that has made all the difference." All I can say to that is, how true!
