Meet Sister Mary Carol

"Above all, I am most grateful to God for God's fidelity to me"

I was born in Toronto. At St. Joseph's College School, staffed by Sisters of St. Joseph, it would have been difficult to be immune to the inspiration of the Sisters' dedicated lives. I loved my Grade 1 teacher, Sister Mary Alban Hennessey, and often remained after school to help her. My mother tells me I had voiced my desire, even then, to be a Sister. Sister St. Ivan, my Grade 8 teacher, was another strong influence.

My call was quietly unfolding

My call to religious life was quietly unfolding within me, and when I was in Grade 13, I approached Mother St. Brigid for an interview and was accepted into the Congregation. After my first profession of vows, I was sent to be educated as a teacher. My 23 years in teaching and school administration were happy times spent in Toronto and as far west as Vancouver and Kitimat, British Columbia. Following this time in B.C., And for eight years, I served my Congregation and the Church in a leadership role as General Superior of our Congregation.

In 1985, I was involved in opening a home for homeless women and single moms. I lived and worked with these 12 to 14 women for seven years. What a gift those years at Nazareth House were in my life and in theirs!

Led to a healing ministry

Colon cancer sneaked into my life and forced me to leave the place where my heart had been so richly nourished. But whenever God closes one door, another is opened. The cancer having been beaten, God led me into a healing ministry that has grown over the years, and which now gives life to me and to a group of women who want more quality in their busy lives.

I thank God every day

Above all, I am most grateful to God for God's fidelity to me. I thank God every day for my call to be an apostolic woman religious in a congregation whose charism is unity and reconciliation.
