After high school, I attended the University of Toronto and began studying to be a doctor. I appreciated the challenge of the medical world. But by the end of my second pre-med year, I was experiencing a call to religious life. I decided to enter the Sisters of St. Joseph, who had taught me in school. They had impressed me as women who did the work of God without much fanfare.
I soon found that I wanted to work in teaching. I completed my B.A. and took courses in science. Then I began teaching at the high school level in Toronto and later Vancouver and I had the religious name of Sr. Mary Ambrose. I finished my teaching career back in Toronto as a high school librarian.
Then I studied personality types, focusing on the Enneagram which I taught at St. Joseph’s Centre, Morrow Park, and also in British Columbia.
Today finds me in Fort St. James, B.C., in ministry with First Nations people. The elders here teach me so much: about how to accept whatever God gives us and about the power of prayer. I am excited about my new life.
